Meet your guide

Hello, I'm Sanet.

I'm a TCAS-registered counsellor (Reg. No. 30-135/2024) in Kempton Park, South Africa. For more than 26 years I have worked with children and families: as a teacher, as the principal of Atlas Academy for 16 years, and now in my own counselling practice, where I see children, teens, adults, couples and families.

I have completed more than 50 diplomas and certificates in psychology, counselling and child development. But the deepest lessons came from life. I went through a lot from a young age, with no one to guide me. I know how lonely a broken heart can feel.

That is why I made Mended with Gold: so that nobody has to walk through heartache alone. Wherever you are in your story, you are welcome here.

Endless love, Sanet

A letter from my heart

My dear friend,

If you are reading this, your heart is hurting, and I want you to know: I see you. I have a soft heart too. I know what it is to feel a pain so deep that there are no words for it, like a little baby who cries because something hurts and cannot tell anyone where. My dad was like that too. And if you are someone who hides your hurt so well that nobody knows, I see you as well.

Heartache is not the end of your story. I believe it is part of the golden glue that makes each of us beautiful and unique. It is during our most difficult times that we find the true gold of our hearts.

Over the years, every hurt wraps another layer around that gold, until we can hardly find it anymore. But it has never left you. I made this course, with all my love, to help you understand why heartache happens, to let go of anger, and to gently unwrap those layers until you find your own true gold again.

I am 43 years old and still working through my own layers. So we will do this together, one gentle step at a time.

Endless love,
Sanet

In loving memory

For my dad

This course is dedicated to my dad, one of the most beautiful hearts that ever walked the earth. I know he is watching down from heaven.

Love you always, Pappa.

What you'll learn

Eleven short lessons in three parts. Go at your own pace; your place is saved. Each lesson has something to read, something to try and something to write.

Why "Mended with Gold"?

In Japan, there is an old art called kintsugi. When a precious bowl breaks, it is not thrown away. The pieces are joined with gold, and the cracks become the most beautiful part. I believe our hearts are the same. Heartache is part of the golden glue that makes each of us beautiful and unique. It is in our hardest times that we find the true gold of our hearts. What happened to you will always be part of your story, but it is not the end of it.

My own reminder

This beautiful piece stands on my bedside table. I found it while thrift shopping. Whether or not it is real kintsugi, it is my daily reminder of the gold. Look closely: this piece of art would never look the same without the beautiful gold in between.

Neither would you. The gold between your broken pieces is what makes you, you.
